Sr. Research Scientist

About the Opportunity

Northeastern University seeks a highly motivated and accomplished PhD-trained Sr. Research Scientist with expertise in pharmaceutical sciences to lead and contribute to academic–industrial collaborative projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing translational research programs that bridge fundamental science with industry-driven innovation in drug discovery, drug delivery, diagnostics, and therapeutic development.

 

The Sr. Research Scientist will be responsible for designing, managing, and executing research projects in close partnership with industrial collaborators, mentoring junior scientists and trainees, and supporting grant- and contract-funded programs that enhance the university’s mission of fostering innovation at the academic–industry interface.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with strong expertise in drug delivery, formulation science, or translational therapeutics.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of postdoctoral or industry research experience (academic–industry partnership experience strongly preferred).

  • Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications, patents, and/or technology development in pharmaceutical sciences.

  • Experience working with industry sponsors and collaborative research agreements.

  • Strong technical expertise in one or more of the following areas:

    • Drug delivery systems (nanoparticles, liposomes, polymeric formulations)

    • Biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics

    • Biomarker discovery and validation (e.g., microRNA, proteomics, diagnostics)

    • Translational animal models of disease

  • Excellent skills in scientific communication, project management, and leadership.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with regulatory guidelines (FDA, EMA) and quality-by-design (QbD) approaches.

  • Prior involvement in grant writing, technology licensing, or commercialization.

  • Strong connections with pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

  • Evidence of mentoring and training graduate or professional students.

Expected Hiring Range:

$86,490.00 - $122,163.75

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
